Preventing Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) is one of the best health and safety investments you can make. Workplace musculoskeletal injuries are the most frequent lost-time injuries and the largest single source of lost-time costs in the workers’ compensation system across Canada.
While not all workers will develop MSDs if exposed to the same risk factors, when MSDs develop, they are often painful and disabling. They can interfere with all kinds of tasks at work, at home, and in recreation. Even at early stages, recovery from MSDs often requires months or years of treatment. In severe cases, there may be permanent disability.
MSDs can be caused by such factors as repetitive movements, force and awkward body positions. Also over-reaching, bending twisting etc.
Work related MSDs are injuries:
- To the muscles, nerves, tendons and joints. Most frequently to the fingers, wrists, arms, shoulders and back that develop over time
- From tasks that repeatedly cause stress and injury to tissues that develop when there is not enough time for tissues to recover and heal.
Ergonomics is the science concerned with the design of equipment and work processes to achieve the highest possible levels of safety, efficiency and productivity.
Ergonomics helps to make work more compatible with the people who do the work and is a guide to developing preventative measures for workers.
We will visit your workplace and assess your work stations and then follow up with a report for your consideration.
